I thought that this story was very well executed. there was a great deal of creativity involved in the storytelling by making it completely, start to finish, a telephone conversation. what i really admired about it was the development of the characters. the conversation was so revealing of the nature of John and Sharon, or"Marilyn". the progression of it was a very real sounding conversation, and with each interjection of fact or plot element it seemed like it really could have been coming out in this obscure circumstance of a conversation.
I also found the complexity of the characters to be quite interesting. you can get right away that it is about a guy calling a phone sex line and is needing deeper things, but the development of John's character throughout the piece was interesting to me. He reveals in the conversation how intellectual he is and how his complex thought process can be his undoing (and ultimately turns out to be again). this all leads to a (perhaps expected) turn at the end where the roles are shifted and digs slightly at a point of irony, delving into the convoluted and hypocritical nature of the human nature and sexuality
